Lipoedema (also spelled lipedema) is a chronic condition in which fatty tissue builds up symmetrically and disproportionately, mainly on the legs and sometimes the arms, while the feet and hands stay unaffected. It is more common in women and is often overlooked or mistaken for obesity or lymphoedema.
Typical signs are tenderness and pain in the affected areas, heavy legs, a tendency to bruise, and fat that doesn't reduce despite diet and exercise. Because the condition isn't caused by lifestyle, it needs understanding, proper care and everyday support.
Although lipoedema can't be cured, its symptoms can be eased successfully - with compression garments, manual lymphatic drainage, adapted physical activity and skincare, and in some cases specialised medical procedures. At ANAVÉA we've put together a selection of products to support everyday management of lipoedema and ease discomfort.
